I did not think I would be able to quit my smoking habit. It seemed like I was always waiting until the pressure in my life was at a minimum to begin to quit and of course that just never seemed to happen. I used my smoking as an anxiety reliever and I just didn't know what to replace it with. I was nervous of gaining weight and it seemed like every time I stopped smoking or even attempted smoking control, I replaced my smoking with eating and as soon as I saw a weight increase over five pound I was once again smoking.

It wasn't simple but I started some smoking control by replacing additional activities and habits for times when I would usually smoke. When I decided that I had to break the smoking habit I started with a list of pros and cons for my determination to smoke or to quit. Otherwise what I was getting out of smoking and then the cons to keeping my smoking habit. Of course the pros far outweighed the cons. The health and financial costs of a smoking addiction makes the decision to continue one you cant really explain in any sense except for the fact that as a smoker this is a habit that you savor.

After I made my list I hung this list up on my bathroom mirror and also on my bedroom door. I wanted everyday to see my reasons for changing my behavior this helped a lot since quitting smoking is a decision one has to establish everyday. When ever you stop smoking you have to suspect there will be times when you will slip but in the times past that I backslid, I just accepted failure and started smoking full steam ahead. This time if I slipped and bought a pack of cigarettes or smoked one I begged from a friend I allowed myself forgiveness for not being perfect and started right back up.

If I saw the scales go up I made sure to workout more and not to substitute eating with smoking. I also rewarded myself by pampering myself with something I normally would not do for myself. Any time I pay attention to careful smoking control my cigarette use always goes down. I can't say that I do not think about smoking from time to time and without doubt always will but I always remind myself that what you save is both health and money. Your clothes do not smell like smoke your hair does not reek of smoke and you can taste the food you eat. You can also put the cash you would have used for buying smokes into a bank account and watch it add up.
